Food Is My First Language
FIMFL is a group mentoring dinner series that creates “unlikely allies” between young adults and the professional community through a hands-on dinner making series. Facilitating connections that cross the cultural boundaries of age, ethnicity, class and ability is an important opportunity for teens that increases their confidence and social skills needed in adulthood.
FIMFL Matters Because:
- Cooking with company is fun!
- Older teens increase their comfort level around adults
- Connecting adults and teens helps dispel stereotypes that adult professionals may have about urban teens, creating unlikely allies who understand that teens are community assets, not community burdens
